NYCC 2021 Day 1

Well cons are back, kind of…. Everyone that knows me knows the podcast was born out of my love of comic book conventions. A place where people that all love the same things gather and celebrate that things they love. And so when New York Comic Con announced they were coming back this year there was no way I was going to miss it. And I’ve been ready to go for a while.

Keep in mind if you are part of the culture you understand there are 2 big conventions every year San Diego and New York. For the past several years they have been competing for who’s the bigger show. Both growing in leaps and bounds. Basically if you are going to go to a convention and you can only go to one it is one of the 2. And with San Diego not doing a show this year the choice was obvious. So I got my press pass, packed my bags and headed to NY!

When I got to the con and saw the crowd waiting to get in, I started feeling good about the show. Yeah cons are back I thought and I am ready to go! Aren’t we all ready to get back to normal?

But when I stepped inside the story changed just a little bit. The con even though it took up the same amount of space it felt smaller. Everything was more spread out and you could easily get around. I’m not saying having room to move around is a bad thing, but was nervous this was a bad sign. I also notice all the major publishers Marvel, DC and Image to name a few did not set up booths this year. They all sited health concerns for the reason for not attending this year, but their absence can be felt.

Now don’t take this as I had a bad time. Not at all. There is still a lot to see and do at the con. Lots of people to talk to and fun to be had. It’s always fun to run into friends you haven’t seen in a long time and say hello and hang out. I even got to see my goof Friend Joey DiCarlo of the So Wizard Podcast and that’s always a good thing, There will be more fun to be had tomorrow and I will tell you all about it then. For now I’ll rest to have more report tomorrow.
